Posada Amazonas (04 Days-03 Nights) -AE12-

Itinerary

-Day 01 Puerto Maldonado - Posada Amazonas
Upon arrival from Lima or Cuzco, reception and transfer to the Tambopata River port in Puerto Maldonado. A two-hour boat trip in a motorised canoe takes you to the Posada Amazonas lodge. During this trip you might be able to spot various species of birds such as: Black Skimmer, Pied Lapwing, Capped Heron, Horned Screamer, Bat Falcon, and several species of kingfishers, swallows and flycatchers. Posada Amazonas is a comfortable yet unobtrusive lodge owned partly by the Ese’eja Native Community of Tambopata. In time the lodge will be owned and managed by the community. Lunch and diner.
-Day 02 Posada Amazonas
At dawn a short hike takes you to the parrot clay lick a few minutes down river from the lodge. Dozens and sometimes hundreds of smaller Yellow crowned and Mealy Amazons and Blue Headed Parrots congregate here on clear mornings to ingest clay. At times this spectacle lasts for hours. It usually ends when the macaws sense danger, sometimes in the form of an eagle, and depart simultaneously in an explosion of sound and colour. After an early breakfast you depart for a visit to the beautiful Tres Chimbadas Lake, fifteen minutes from Posada Amazonas. Upon arrival, we hike a short trail to the lake and take a long, easy canoe ride around it. We look for giant river otters, turtles, hoatzin, and wading birds. The giant river otters that are seen in Tres Chimbadas belong to a resident family of five. We return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon we walk to the nearest and most active of the eight Harpy Eagle nests found within community territory and ascend a 30-meter (98 ft) tall tower, located fifty yards from the nest. The Harpy Eagle is the world’s most powerful bird of prey. We return to the lodge for diner. Enthusiasts can go on a night walk. Breakfast, lunch and diner
-Day 03 Posada Amazonas
At dawn you can go for an optional visit to the clay lick. After breakfast, we go for a hike accompanied by an Ese’eja who will explain how the forest is used in their everyday life: food, medicine, construction material etc. In the afternoon we hike a different trail that crosses floodplain and bamboo forest. Bamboo forests in Tambopata are famous for the abundance of rare birds that live exclusively in this habitat. They are also the home of the frequently found Dusky-headed titi monkeys. In another hike through primary floodplain forest, we might encounter small primates as Squirrel and Brown Capuchin Monkeys and Saddleback Tamarins. Breakfast, lunch and diner.
-Day 04 Posada Amazonas – Puerto Maldonado
After an early breakfast you return to Puerto Maldonado for your flight back to Lima. Breakfast
Departure: Daily
